Social Media seems to be all the rage in the world of business, franchises and restaurants. Four simple things to know once you get into Social Media

Social Media seems to be all the rage in the world of business, franchises and restaurants.

If you’re ready to jump into Social Media there are a few things to keep in mind. In addition to the various sites like Facebook, Twitter, Yelp…etc..etc… I can assure you of four things when it comes to social media.

1. It is NOT simply Chit Chat

2. You must not market in the traditional sense of the word or you will be “deleted” or “unfollowed’ …. Social Media is “Word of Mouth” to the tenth power! So the same way you wouldn’t inject a marketing message into a conversation your were having with someone at a cocktail party, you certainly would NOT want to inject a blatant marketing message into a conversation within social media conversation.

3. You cannot control the content people post…You can only monitor it and respond to those who give praise or make complaints

4. Social Media is so new that there are NO experts, so beware of those who claim they are “Expert”…We are all still learning.

One of the keys to Social Media is understand that for the most part it is an on-going conversation by people who have something in common. Each community tends to attract people interested in a particular topic or lifestyle.

By adding to the conversation and making suggestions or writing reviews or better yet invite others to write a review or post a comment about your business you will create buzz…That alone can grow your business immensely. It has helped grow my business on both the franchise sales side and the consumer side for our franchisees.

Once again I stress…it is turbo charged Word of Mouth.

Be well
Gary

I kind of think of it a lot like the Cheers Bar. People come in and gather around a central brand, or idea, etc and then chat about everything and anything with things typically flowing back to the main reason for gathering there in the first place.

I think your number two point is really important. Nothing is worse than being constantly hammered about whiter teeth, how to make money through MLM, or the like. It’s very off putting. And really shows a lack of real interest in who you are marketing too.
