How many business cards have you seen and you thought, What where they thinking?? Here are my top 5 mistakes people make with their business cards.
1. Do not use vellum. First it’s flimsy. It feels cheap. People can’t write any information on it. It’s best used for party invitations. or restaurant menus. Your business card is a reflection of you and your interior design business. I have tried printing on vellum with my computer and it tends to smear and you don’t want your first impression with someone- your business card - to look crisp, clean and easy to read.
2. Use gloss on the front of the card, not on the back. I will go to a trade show and I write information on the back of the card to remember what caught my eye. Make sure the back of the card can use a ball point pen rather than a felt tip. The felt tip will smear. I have made this mistake three different times and wasted a lot of paper to create the “right” business card.
3. Please make sure your font size is at least 12 pt. This is for the over -40 crowd that have to wear glasses to see things up close.
4. Think about of the colors you use. Think about what your potential client is like- are you targeting college graduates, young professionals, Gen-X, etc. Do you want to attract men? women? What colors appeal to you? This dictates your “look” should be.
5. See how your it looks in black and white. People still use faxes and they print on black and white. Your business card also shows your logo. A lot of business people use Card Scan that can be uploaded to outlook. Make sure your card will be accepted by his format. This is a trick I pass on to younger generations with the advent of scanner and PDF”s. Most offices still have fax machines and you want your logo and business card to be seen in it’s best light. Please send me your ideas what would be the best business card you think and the worst. I have seen over 5000 business cards and would like to share the ones that most impressed me and the ones that the person should have torn up and throw in the trash!
